When it comes to writing, it is important to write with a purpose and know your audience. This is true even for personal writing. This is especially true if you are going to publish your writing. This is even true when writing your first blog post.
We're not just writing in a vacuum here. Blogging presents an opportunity to share experiences with readers in a way that wouldn't be appropriate for other kinds of writing. It adds a personal touch that you wouldn't find in an article that is based on objective facts. It establishes communication between the writer and the reader.
Such an idea has intrigued me for some time, but it was only until recently that I found the motivation to start blogging. I don't want my posts to be just a series of opinions or how my day went. I want my posts to be thoughtful, entertaining, engaging, informative, and beaming with my personality. I want to take advantage of the medium and use it in such a way to strengthen the connections I have with my friends on Twitch, and to the gaming team I'm on, RNGGods.
Looking at my plate of scattered ideas, I realize nobody will want to consume it unless it looks appetizing. My rough drafts are too long. I don't have an audience in mind. They go off on too many tangents. It's a frustrating experience. I know I can't be alone on this, but can you really get away with blogging about blogging? As your first blog? Who would want to read that...?
Anyway, I have decided to abandon my personal blog and write for RNGGods, where I already know the purpose and the audience. I'm very excited! Writing as part of a team will help keep my writing more focused, and well, make sure it's thoughtful, entertaining, engaging, informative, and filled with personality!
Thank you all for having me on the team. Strap yourselves in, it's going to be quite a ride!
